General Utility Worker (3 Positions)

Dates Employed

• 1 position: March to December
• 2 positions: May to September (Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend)

Hours

• 16 to 40 hours per week
• 8-hour and 10-hour shifts, varying with seasons
• Weekend and holiday work required

Pay: $12 per hour

Minimum age: 16 years old

Required tests: Drug testing/screening required by the U.S. Coast Guard

Job description

• Assist park maintenance staff with custodial, janitorial, landscaping, and minor repairs to park grounds and facilities
• Fill in, as needed, for the ferry deckhand position

Duties

• Mow grass and cut weed throughout the park
• Collect trash and pick up litter
• Assist maintenance staff with various maintenance projects
• Disinfect and clean up assigned areas and facilities, including restrooms, parking lot, and grounds
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness
• Interact and provide information and customer service to visitors
• Cross-train in deckhand position to fill in when necessary
• Use a two-way/VHF radio
• Work as a team member
• Other duties as assigned

Skills

• Basic computer skills
• Knowledge or experience in landscaping and/or mowing

• North Carolina Boater Safety Course
