Black Bears

A NORTH CAROLINA SCIENCE FESTIVAL EVENT

A common question asked here at Hammocks Beach State Park: Are there bear on Bear Island?

The American black bear is the most commonly seen bear in North America with a huge geographic range where it lives, breeds, and travels within.  Here in Eastern North Carolina we have a very large population in which inhabits our woods and sometimes seen in nearby towns!  Join a ranger for a program talk about some of its natural history, management programs, as well as some common myths associated with this prevalent and amazing animal!
