First Day Hike

First Day Hike

Start a New Year's Day tradition.  Join one of our rangers for our park's First Day Hike of 2016.  Hikers will meet at the gravel parking lot on Holloway Mountain Road, 1 mile north of the Blue Ridge Parkway entrance ramp (Parking area is located on the gravel portion of Holloway Mtn. Road).  Hikers will hike 45 minutes out and 45 minutes back on the Tanawha Trail.  Please dress appropriately for weather conditions.  For icy conditions, bring ice traction for shoes if you have them. If there are several inches of snow, bring snow shoes if you have them. The park has a few pairs of snowshoes for the first arrivals.  Please bring water and a snack.   Call the park office by 11:30am if the weather is questionable, or if you have any questions: 828.963.9522.
 
Appropriate for all ages - children under 16 must be accompanied by adult. Please no pets.

To accommodate early hikes, park gates are not closed on a daily basis; however, they may close due to weather conditions.

OFFICE HOURS:  The state park office is open Monday through Friday, 8am - 4:30pm. You may contact our office during business hours or after hours; leave a message and we will return your call as soon as possible.
