Due to HVAC damage from a recent lighting strike, several of the restored fort museum rooms of Fort Macon are currently closed to the public. The rest of the fort is still operating on its normal daily schedule from 9 am-5:30 pm.

Scheduled events
Fort Macon State Park offers a variety of learning opportunities for all ages. Typically led by park rangers, these interpretive programs allow the public to gain perspective into what makes North Carolina state parks naturally wonderful.
Most of the events are free, though some require pre-registration. All give park visitors deeper insight into the natural world. Call the park office for more information.
Meet in the fort entrance for a guided tour of Fort Macon. Tours last approximately 45 minutes and are held daily at 11:00, 1:00, & 3:00. Please note that pets are not allowed inside the fort.

Come out to the Fort’s parade ground at 10:30 am or 2:30 pm to learn about one of the small arms (musket, flint lock, or rifle) that a soldier station at Fort Macon would have carried and used. This will include a blank firing demonstration of the weapon.
