Events and Programs

Due to HVAC damage from a recent lighting strike, several of the restored fort museum rooms of Fort Macon are currently closed to the public. The rest of the fort is still operating on its normal daily schedule from 9 am-5:30 pm.

Scheduled events
Fort Macon State Park offers a variety of learning opportunities for all ages. Typically led by park rangers, these interpretive programs allow the public to gain perspective into what makes North Carolina state parks naturally wonderful.
Most of the events are free, though some require pre-registration. All give park visitors deeper insight into the natural world. Call the park office for more information.
Sign your kids up to work with a Park Ranger to earn their Jr. Ranger Patch. This event is for children age 6-12 who must be accompanied by an adult. Those attending should wear closed-toe shoes and bring water. Sunscreen and bug spray are highly recommended. Program lasts from 1:00 - 4:30. Space is limited. Call the park office in advance to register. 252-726-3775
Meet in the fort to watch a 19th century cannon be loaded and fired in the military tradition of the "Evening Gun." Cannon Crew provided by US Coast Guard Station Ft. Macon.
Meet in the Visitor Center lobby for a leisurely hike exploring the natural side of Fort Macon. Hike will cover both trail and beach.
