Home >> Fort Fisher State Recreation Area >> Events and Programs

Fort Fisher State Recreation Area will re-open on Friday, September 21st at 8am. The trail will remain closed as it has sustained significant damage.  The four wheel drive gate is not working properly, park visitors will still need to purchase a permit in the park office.  Staff have removed lots of safety hazards and debris from the beach, but if you notice a safety concern please notify park staff immediately.

Events and Programs

Fort Fisher State Recreation Area offers a variety of learning opportunities for all ages. Typically led by park rangers, these interpretive programs allow the public to gain perspective into what makes North Carolina state parks naturally wonderful.

Most of the events are free, though some require pre-registration. All give park visitors deeper insight into the natural world. Call the park office for more information.

Join park staff as we hike the basin trail through maritime forest, back dune, and salt marsh habitat. The trail is approximately two miles and will pass the historic World War II bunker. We will take many stops along the way to learn about all the plants and animals that call this area home! Don't forget to bring water, sunscreen, and bug spray. Call 910-458-5798 to make reservations.
