Dine in the great outdoors
Picnic tables. Nearly every North Carolina state park has facilities for picnicking. These areas usually have picnic tables, nearby restrooms, drinking water and receptacles for recycling and the disposal of trash. Some areas also have charcoal grills and nearby play areas and play fields. The picnic tables cannot be reserved and are available on a first-come first-served basis free of charge.
Picnic shelters are covered, seat 16-150 people, and have electrical outlets (Jordan Lake State Recreation Area has a 500 person shelter). Most have grills and/or fireplaces, and attached or nearby restrooms. They are available by reservation, or on a first-come first-served basis when not reserved. If the shelter is important to your plans, we recommend making a reservation. Nearly every picnic shelter is handicap accessible. However, there are a few exceptions so please check with the individual park or the reservations website to ensure the shelter of your choice is accessible.
