There's something for everyone

From fishing lessons to astronomy programs, from tree identification hikes to kite workshops, our parks offer a variety of learning opportunities for all ages. Most of the events are free, though some require pre-registration.

Meet at the Golden Corral (Dutch Treat) in Morehead City for the Friends of Fort Macon’s monthly meeting.  News about upcoming events and projects will be discussed, and a guest speaker will have a 30-45 min presentation.

This is a very active time of year for owls. Come learn about these night flyers as we read a book, play some games, and make a craft. All activities will be geared towards 3 to 5-year-olds and meant for parents to do with their children.

Look for a Park Ranger and his interesting display of skulls and skins at the Cole Mill Shelter.  Drop by between 2:00 –3:00 pm and hear about some of the animals that call Eno River State Park home.

Join a park ranger for a hike through the bay forest at Jones Lake State Park and "discover" why this environment is unique.  Discussion on the hike will include the flora and fauna of the forest, and why Carolina Bays are important.  Participants should meet at the Visitor Center at 10:00 am for this program. Come to the picnic area behind the park office and prepare to make a tasty treat for our feathered friends.  Please bring baggies to safely take your treats home.  Space is limited, so please call the park office at 252-586-6588 to register for this free program!

Join an Environmental Educator on a short, nature hike to the Rock Garden.  We’ll identify plants that maintain “Christmas green” the whole year round.  Every participant will be invited to collect a couple of cool nature things (only from the ground, please) to decorate the front of his/her very own Hanging Rock holiday card.
