There's something for everyone

From fishing lessons to astronomy programs, from tree identification hikes to kite workshops, our parks offer a variety of learning opportunities for all ages. Most of the events are free, though some require pre-registration.

Meet at the Fort Visitor Center to learn about the wide range of flags used by at Fort Macon and by the confederacy during the War Between the States.

Join a park ranger to learn about some of these slithery creatures that roam North Carolina and what important role they play in certain ecosystems. We will look at several species and talk about certain key snake features that help you determine if it is venomous or nonvenomous as well as other safety tips.

Meet at the Golden Corral (Dutch Treat) in Morehead City for the Friends of Fort Macon’s monthly meeting.  News about upcoming events and projects will be discussed, and a guest speaker will have a 30-45 min presentation.

Lake James is a wintering spot for dozens of common loons coming from their northern nesting territories. On quiet, still mornings you can often hear their iconic cries echoing across the water.
