There's something for everyone

From fishing lessons to astronomy programs, from tree identification hikes to kite workshops, our parks offer a variety of learning opportunities for all ages. Most of the events are free, though some require pre-registration.

Join a park ranger to begin your adventure into the basics of black bears.  What do bears eat? Where do they live? Do they hibernate during NC winters? And will they attack? Let’s answer these and other common questions about the largest land mammals in our woods. The Ranger will read a true story book about an adventurous bear from the Great Smoky Mountains.

Come out to the park after dark for this nature-inspired moonlit hike along the park’s ½ mile nature trail. You will get to experience the sights and sounds of the night as walk through the woods looking for any nature treasures we may come across. Dress for the weather! Meet at the Visitor Center. NOTE: Subject to cancellation due to foul weather.
