There's something for everyone

From fishing lessons to astronomy programs, from tree identification hikes to kite workshops, our parks offer a variety of learning opportunities for all ages. Most of the events are free, though some require pre-registration.

Meet at the Golden Corral (Dutch Treat) in Morehead City for the Friends of Fort Macon’s monthly meeting.  News about upcoming events and projects will be discussed, and a guest speaker will have a 30-45 min presentation.

Bring your kids out to Occoneechee’s ponds for a fishing experience!  (Limit 6 kids)

Wear shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting wet.
Children must be accompanied by an adult.

We have a great way for you to celebrate North Carolina State Parks’ 2018 Year of the Fish! Head out to the Bower’s Bog Trail at Weymouth Woods for a Story Walk and discover the pages of the children’s book Catfish, Cod, Salmon, and Scrod: What is a Fish? along the trail. 2018 is NC State Parks’ Year of the Fish. Join us to learn about our finned friends as we go on a Story Walk around the 0.3-mile Bower’s Bog Trail. We’ll read a book that’s posted throughout the trail, and color a journal about fish as we go. This program is designed for 3 to 5-year-olds, and meant for parents to do with their children.

CAMPFIRE!  We will discuss how to make a fire and practice the art of building a fire (w/ food items).  We will then go outside and put our skills to the test by building an actual campfire and getting it started using only one match!  What campfire would be complete without S’Mores?!

Program will be both inside and outside. DRESS FOR THE WEATHER!
