Join a park ranger for the Great Backyard Bird Count! – We will be hiking the fields of the Pilot Creek Trail and looking for resident wintering birds. Have you ever wondered about the tracks in the mud? Or what animal made that scat? Come on out to Morrow Mountain to enjoy a hike on the Quarry Trail (0.6 miles). We will be looking for signs to see what our furry and feathered friends have been up to! Please bring water and dress for the weather.

 Join a park ranger and learn about the geological mysteries of the Carolina Bays. Formation theories and the natural communities associated with Carolina Bays will be discussed. Participants should meet at the Jones Lake State Park Visitor Center at 10:00am.  Call the Park office at 910-588-4550 for more information. Come be a part of the 10K Women Trail Project, an initiative to get women and girls out on trails all across North America. North Carolina State Parks is helping promote this effort through a series of “Trail Sisters” hikes around the state. So bring your moms, daughters, sisters, aunts, nieces, grandmas, and friends out for a 2-mile walk to enjoy the fresh air!
