NORTH CAROLINA SCIENCE FESTIVAL EVENT

Come out to Hammocks Beach State Park and experience the thrill and excitement of a STARLAB portable planetarium at the park! Sponsored by Woodmen Life– you will get a chance to encounter the universe and learn about the solar system and all the exciting myths and mysteries behind our dark skies.  There will be several other activities for everyone... more

Star light, star bright, join us to look at some stars tonight!!! Join the ranger staff and volunteers for our Star Party! We will be playing star games and looking at the stars through telescopes. Rain date is April 21. For more information, please call 704-528-6350.

Come out to see the stars at Haw River State Park! There will be star games and activities appropriate for all ages. The evening will include a Solar System night hike to the upper meadow for a campfire, story- time with” mars” mallow treats and night sky viewing presented by the Greensboro Astronomy Club.

Reenactors with the 1st NC Volunteers will be spending the weekend at the fort presenting the public with special living history events and programs.  Events will be held from 10:00 to 4:00 each day and may include flag talks, women's dress talks, musket drills, and artillery demonstrations. A skirmish scenario will take place at 1:30 on both Saturday and Sunday.

Join a park ranger and learn about the geological mysteries of the Carolina Bays. Formation theories and the natural communities associated with Carolina Bays will be discussed. Participants should meet at the Jones Lake State Park Visitor Center at 10:00am.  Call the Park office at 910-588-4550 for more information. Join a Park Ranger for a wildflower walk along the Jacob Fork River.  These moderate hikes will begin at the Jacob Fork Parking Area and last approximately one hour.  Each hike will be about 0.75 miles long.  Current blooming wildflowers and other flora will be identified on this walk.
