Fall at North Carolina State Parks

Fall is a beautiful season to visit the Uwharrie Mountains in central North Carolina. Come enjoy the scenery from the top of Morrow Mountain and join a park ranger for a guided hike along the 0.8 mile-long Mountain Loop Trail. This easy hike is appropriate for most age groups and abilities and it has minimal elevation change.

Join a Park Ranger at 10:00 a.m. in the Flytrap Trail Parking Area for a hike along the trails. Learn about different habitats that exist within Carolina Beach State Park and how each habitat affects the plants and animals that call the park home. Wear good walking shoes and dress for the weather. For more information, call 910-458-8206.

The end of Nature Trail Lane in the Flytrap Trail Parking Area

Join a Ranger and enjoy a short hike at Lake Norman State Park. We will hike the .8 mile Alder Trail which follows the shorelines of Norwood and Hicks Creek. Participants can expect to discover flora and fauna which call the park home. The hike will begin at 10:00 AM and will leave from the Visitor Center.

Join the naturalist on a short hike to talk about how animals at the Eno River State Park hibernate in the winter. We'll also read a story about hibernation Recommended for ages 5 and under. 

Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Wear closed-toe shoes, bring water and a snack.

Stroll the Eno Trace Trail with Park Staff to learn (or brush up on) tree and plant identification skills. The hike will move at a leisurely pace,  and travel approximately 1.5 miles.

Enjoy a narrated ride lasting about 45 minutes on the open-air Dismal Swamp Express along Canal Road in the morning or the afternoon. Rain or shine (however, we WILL cancel for thunder/lightning), on a first come, first seated basis– we will accommodate larger groups with an additional trip if possible.

Come celebrate National Take a Hike Day by hiking with a ranger on the Mountains to Sea Trail.  The hike shows views of the lake along with some unique geologic features that occur around Falls Lake.  Come prepared with appropriate clothing for the weather, close toed shoes, and water for this 2+ mile out and back hike.  Meet at the Mountains to Sea Trail parking lot on the right side of Creedm
