Fall at North Carolina State Parks

Discover the wonderful world of insects as we explore the Crosswinds meadow. Participants will be learning how to field ID insects as we investigate trees and plants for their inhabitants. Please wear long pants and boots as we will be walking through long grass and bring any water, snacks or bug spray that you may need. Join the Naturalist on a short hike to talk about what we see in Fall at the Eno River State Park. We'll also read a story about Fall.    

Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Join Ranger Musumarra for a guided hike in the Boone Bowl to celebrate the highly anticipated re-opening of the Nuwati and Cragway Trails! Come and get an inside look at the massive undertaking of trail reconstruction, including an in-depth discussion of trail building methodology. Total hiking distance will be approximately three miles, or as far as time allows at a moderate pace.

Enjoy a narrated ride lasting about 45 minutes on the open-air Dismal Swamp Express along Canal Road in the morning or the afternoon. Rain or shine (however, we WILL cancel for thunder/lightning), on a first come, first seated basis– we will accommodate larger groups with an additional trip if possible.

The fall season offers amazing views on Mt. Jefferson. Join us for the legendary seasonal change.  Come up for an hour of creativity and try your hand at painting the fall colors.  A free canvas to take home will be provided for each participant.  Tempera paints and brushes will also be provided as long as supplies last.  No experience necessary.
