Reservations are no longer required to park at Eagle Rock access. The gate at the access is open to all visitors during regular park hours. We hope this new procedure allows better access to Eagle Rock. Please note that there are only eight parking spaces at Eagle Rock access, so please be prepared to make alternate plans if the parking area is full when you arrive. Weed Patch Mountain Trail connects to Buffalo Creek Park, which is managed by the town of Lake Lure. Please do not park on private property or block any gates.

On February 16, Chimney Rock’s Rumbling Bald Parking lot held over 300 participants eager to begin Carolina Climber’s Coalitions’ (CCC’s) annual climbing competition. After a night of rain thoroughly dampened the boulder field and cliff faces, conditions for climbing were not ideal. To off-set the difficult task of competing on wet rock, CCC gave climbers one additional hour to complete their routes. Between 10am and 5pm, participants slid, grunted, and scrambled on slick quartz crystals and gneiss slab.
After a long and slow recovery process, Chimney Rock’s elevator is once again fully operational and available for public use. In August, 2015, Chimney Rock State Park launched a capital campaign in response to a significant malfunction in the elevator. The campaign’s goal was to replace the elevator’s motor, computer, and power lines.
