In order to preserve the beauty in our parks, Chimney Rock State Park would like to remind visitors to please park only in designated areas. Parking along the grass, along road shoulders, and in front of parking signs causes congestion, damages access areas, and could result in a parking citation. Please respect our resources so that they may be utilized for future visitors.

On February 16, Chimney Rock’s Rumbling Bald Parking lot held over 300 participants eager to begin Carolina Climber’s Coalitions’ (CCC’s) annual climbing competition. After a night of rain thoroughly dampened the boulder field and cliff faces, conditions for climbing were not ideal. To off-set the difficult task of competing on wet rock, CCC gave climbers one additional hour to complete their routes. Between 10am and 5pm, participants slid, grunted, and scrambled on slick quartz crystals and gneiss slab.
After a long and slow recovery process, Chimney Rock’s elevator is once again fully operational and available for public use. In August, 2015, Chimney Rock State Park launched a capital campaign in response to a significant malfunction in the elevator. The campaign’s goal was to replace the elevator’s motor, computer, and power lines.
