Highway 9 Landslide/Eagle Rock Parking lot

May 5 2018, a major landslide occured on Hwy 9 at Shumont Road. The Department of Transportation has stated that it could be multiple weeks until the road is opened. This slide has blocked State Park staff from accessing the Eagle Rock area. As such, the Eagle Rock parking lot project has been put on hold until further notice.

This strenuous 2.2 mile round trip bushwacking adventure will lead the Friends deep into the back country to the bottom of one of the most remote waterfalls in Hickory Nut Gorge, Pool Creek Falls.  There is no trail in this area, so be prepared for a difficult hike.  Meet at Superintendent Ledgerwood at the Ticket Plaza in the Chimney Rock Attraction

Please wear appropriate shoes and clothing for tough mountain terrain and variable mountain weather. Bring plenty of water, snacks, & a lunch.  Programs are scheduled but ending time may vary based on the abilities of the group.

This series of guided hikes is sponsored by the Friends of Chimney Rock State Park and led by Park Rangers.  These hikes take you into back country areas where access is limited.  The hikes are free for current Friends members.  Chimney Rock State Park annual passholders may attend for a donation.
Space is limited. Call 828-625-1823 to reserve your space today!
