  • All eight species of woodpeckers found in North Carolina can be spotted in the park forests, including the red-cockaded woodpecker, which is on the federal list of endangered species.
  • The park won the North Carolina Division of Parks and Recreation's Prescribed Burner of the Year Award this year for their outstanding environmental management efforts.
  • Long Valley Farm, once the winter getwaway for James Stillman Rockefeller, is on the National Register of Historic Places.
