Events and Programs

Carvers Creek State Park offers a variety of learning opportunities for all ages. Typically led by park rangers, these interpretive programs allow the public to gain perspective into what makes North Carolina state parks naturally wonderful.

Most of the events are free, though some require pre-registration. All give park visitors deeper insight into the natural world. Call the park office for more information.

StoryWalk® is simply a book and a walking path combined.  In 2007, Anne Fergusson with the Vermont Department of Health had the idea to combine literacy and exercise. Teaming up with the Kellog Hubbard Library in Montpelier they attached laminated pages from a children’s book onto wooden posts.  In the ten years since, StoryWalks have gone up in all 50 states and at least 11 countries. The pages are affixed to metal sign stakes and a trail instantly becomes even more fun for children and book-lovers of all ages. StoryWalks® will usually remain up for one-to-two weeks along easy trails about one mile or less. The story featured this time is called " The Lorax " by Dr. Seuss.

Come out and join a Ranger for our Blue Cross Blue Shield Hike NC. We will be exploring our fire-dependent longleaf pine ecosystem and the recently drained millpond that provides a glimpse of land-use history dating back to the 1800s. We will observe numerous native species to the Sandhills and visit some 200-year old longleaf pine trees with Red Cockaded Woodpecker cavities. Bring a bottle of water, a camera (if you like taking pictures), and your walking shoes! We will meet in front of the park office for this event.
