Staff from NC State Parks in partnership with the North Carolina Forest Service is planning two Prescribed fires at Stone Mountain State Park. The first will be at Blackjack Ridge and will burn 320 acres. The second is the Wolf Rock Burn, which will burn 400 acres. The purpose of these burns is to reduce the fuel load on the forest floor, which will reduce the chance of a devastating wildfire and improve the habitat for native species to thrive. These burns will affect the availability of park facilities.
