On May 25 Chimney Rock State Park was honored to receive the North Carolina Land Trust Government Conservation Partner of the Year Award. Superintendent James Ledgerwood attended the ceremony in Raleigh along with Division Director Mike Murphy and Governor Pat McCrory. Superintendent Ledgerwood gave credit to many different organizations, including the Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy and Foothills Conservancy of North Carolina, for their assistance in conserving the natural resources at Chimney Rock.
Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park reopened April 13, three days earlier than anticipated.
On March 5, Chimney Rock State Park hosted a combination volunteer work day and appreciation event. Volunteers built a fire ring and fencing behind the Old Rock Café in Chimney Rock Village, and afterwards old and new volunteers came together for an awards ceremony and s’mores-making.
The elevator at Chimney Rock State Park has been out of service since August 2015 and will remain out of service until repairs can be made.
