Northbound I-85 Exit 217 for Satterwhite Point Road is Closed   

The I-85 Northbound Exit 217 for Satterwhite Point Road is currently closed as part of the I-85 Construction Project.  In addition, as of 10/13/16, the bridges on Nutbush Road and Anderson Creek Road are flooded and closed.
For drivers on I-85 Northbound, who want to come to Satterwhite Point / JC Cooper Campground:

  • Take Exit 215
  • At the top of the ramp, turn left onto Norlina Road/US 1/US 158
  • Go approximately one mile
  • Turn left on Satterwhite Point Rd.
  • Follow Satterwhite Point Rd. approximately 6 miles to Satterwhite Point.

Kerr Lake High Water is Receding   

The J. H. Reservoir water level continues to recede.   The lake level was 302.21’ msl on October 21, 2016 at 3:00 pm.  Most of the campsites that were closed due to flooding last week are now open.  The following sites are still closed:

Hibernia:  Campsite # 90.
J.C. Cooper at Satterwhite Point:  Campsite #’s 5, 7 and 19
Kimball Point:    Campsite # 53

The bridges on Anderson Creek Rd., Jacksontown Rd. and Nutbush Rd. are all open.

Kerr Lake State Recreation Area

Kerr Lake State Recreation Area is a collective of eight access areas scattered around the shoreline of this 50,000-acre reservoir that reaches into Virginia. Hundreds of campsites among five of the access areas offer a range of outdoor experience from RV hookups to group camps. There are several swim beaches in the recreation area and multiple boating ramps, some offering 24-hour access with a few reserved for campers. Two private marinas serve boaters and the lake is renowned for excellent fishing. An extensive boat ramp facility at the Nutbush Access is suitable for fishing tournaments. A community building is a popular venue for family or community gatherings.

November - February: 8am - 6pm
March, April, September and October: 8am - 8pm
May - August: 8am - 9pm
Closed Christmas Day

The day use areas at Bullocksville, Henderson Point Shelter 1 and Satterwhite Point are open year-round. All other day use areas are closed late October – late March. The Henderson Point day use area for shelter 2, shelter 3 and the community building is closed late October – late March but will be opened for groups who rent the community building or the shelters.

County Line, Henderson Point, Hibernia and Nutbush have 24-hour boat ramp facilities open year-round. All other day use areas are closed and locked at park closing time.

Park Hours - Campgrounds
J.C. Cooper Campground at Satterwhite Point and Nutbush are open for camping year-round and have 24 hours access. All other campground areas are closed and locked at park closing time.

Other Campground gate hours are as follows:
March, April and October: 7am - 9pm
May - September: 7am - 10pm
Closed Christmas Day
