Stone Mountain: Fishing Rules and Regulations

Regulations remain the same year round on these streams. All persons fishing are required to have a valid North Carolina Fishing License and a Trout License.
(Both of these licenses are included in an Annual Sportsman License and a Lifetime License.)

Fish for Fun Stream

Bullhead and Rich Mountain Creek

• Requires a fly-rod and reel
• Barbless fly hooks
• Fishing Net

There are 8 sections for fly-fishing (1/2 mile long each).
Cost is $22 per person, per section, per day.
First come, first serve, self-registration at parking area.
Catch and release only.
You can’t be on this stream unless you are fishing and have properly registered.
Only one person is allowed per section.

Big Sandy Creek
Stone Mountain Creek (Alleghany County Section)
Widows Creek
Garden Creek

• Any Rod / Reel
• Artificial Bait, single hook
• You may keep up to 4 fish per person, per day over 7” long

Delayed Harvest Streams

Stone Mountain Creek (Wilkes County Section)
East Prong Roaring River in Stone Mountain State Park.

• Delayed Harvest - From the first day of October through the first Friday in June no trout may be harvested or possessed. Fishing is restricted to artificial lures having one single hook.
• Harvest - From the first Saturday in June through the last day of September, you may use any bait and any lure, and you may keep up to 7 fish, no size limit.
