South Mountains State Park »  Facilities and Fees
The restrooms at the Jacob Fork parking area will be closed for remodeling until further notice. Restrooms with running water are available at the South Mountains State Park Visitor Center. Updated: 2010-03-13 12:03:59
Serious plant pests can be introduced into our parks by campers who bring in firewood. To prevent this, many of our parks sell firewood. For campers who choose to bring in their own firewood, please use wood harvested from a source local to the park. Campers should not bring firewood from outside of North Carolina.

As of March 5th, all trails have been cleared of trees, and are now open. Continue to be alert for hanging limbs and leaning trees that could still present a hazard. Please use caution on any trail, and turn around if you encounter dangerous conditions. All back country campsites are open.

Camping Facilities 15 camp_nohookup Reservations Required: Yes...Would like to see how the system will be structured before deciding whether to include every site, particularly the backcountry sites. Accessible: one
13 camp_group_unimproved Reservations Required: Maybe...Would like to see how the system will be structured before deciding whether to include every site. These are backcountry campsites that can be used either as a regular site, or as a group site. Currently we allow groups to reserve them, but they are first come, first served for everyone else. Logistically, it would not be feasible to go daily into the backcountry to hang reservation signs. We just put up a sign up sheet where they self register now, so others can see when its full, but nothing really keeps extra folks from going up. If someone reserves a site on the new system, it may be giving them a false sense that they will be the only one's there. Accessible: No

These three sites can be used as a backcountry equestrian site (includes 6 slip stalls for the horses), a regular backcountry campsite, or a backcountry group site. This will have the same issues as the unimproved group sites listed above. Accessible: No
