Traffic/Parking information: During spring, summer, and in leaf season your wait for a parking space may be 30 minutes long. There are only 125 parking spaces at the top of the mountain. Please carpool. If waits for parking become lengthy, all incoming traffic other than registered campers may be directed to other local attractions and will have to try to enter the park another day.
Hikers familiar with the park and wanting to avoid the crowds may want to use the Surry Line Rd. parking lot on the south side of the mountain or visit the Park's river section areas.
For visitors who want a scenic drive and do not want to wait in line we suggest the following local attractions:
-Horne Creek State Historic Site- ( 8 miles south of the mountain-follow signs from the Pinnacle exit, closed Sundays)
-The town of Pilot Mountain Downtown- (one exit north of the park)
-The Blue Ridge Parkway- (follow Highway 52 north 25 miles)
-Hanging Rock State Park (25 miles east of the park via HWY 52 in Tobaccoville)
PILOT MOUNTAIN STATE PARK WEATHER FORECAST:
http://tinyurl.com/d4qve9pEquestrians - To preserve park bridle trails for your continued use and enjoyment, all trails are closed to horses after rain. Riding on wet trails creates hazardous areas and erodes the trail. Riding trails when wet will cause their closure for maintenance and their closure to bridle use. If it has rained, wait to ride another day.

If you would like to receive electronic notification of prescribed burns, the park would like to ask you for an email address that you can be reached at. Your email will not be shared with anyone, and you will not be included on “reply-alls” or routine emails from the park. This list-serve would only be used for notification of prescribed fires or emergencies. Prior to a planned prescribed burn you will receive an email and a location of the burn within the state park. If at anytime you would like to be removed from this email list you would have the option to have your contact information deleted by calling or emailing the park.
Please send an email to pilot.mountain@ncparks.gov if you would like to be added to this listserve.
