Portions of Yadkin River Section temporarily closed due to flooding
... details ±The North Side of The Yadkin River Section (Surry County) is currently closed due to high water levels and flooding from Horne Creek. This includes the group camping area, picnic area, and trail access. This area will reopen once conditions are deemed safe and water levels have receded.
Please help Pilot Mountain prevent infestations of Emerald Ash Borer- The USDA has quarantined firewood transport from the following areas: Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia. If you are visiting from these states do not transport firewood into Pilot Mountain State Park or North Carolina.
The emerald ash borer is an insect accidentally introduced into North America from Asia. The emerald ash borer has killed millions of ash trees throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Canada and has now moved into Virginia. This pest has caused billions of dollars of damage to North America's forest industry and has killed many popular landscaping trees. This beetle is spread when various ash articles (firewood, wood chips, nursery stock, etc.) are transported from infested areas to uninfested areas. Campers please avoid bringing in firewood from the states listed above. Firewood is available for sale at the park.
YADKIN RIVER ISLANDS CLOSED TO CAMPING- Due to concerns with visitor safety and resource management concerns from the disposal of waste The Yadkin River Islands are now closed for camping. Camping is available in the Family Campground at the Mountain Section, or for organized group camping at the North River Section on Hauser Road. A temporary campsite has been constructed on the riverbank for canoeists only and is available by reservation only by contacting the park office
at 336-325-2355.
