Ferry Service/Camping Suspended on Bear Island ... details ±

Due to potential adverse weather conditions and rip currents associated with Hurricane Earl, ferry service to Bear island will be suspended Wednesday through Friday. Camping will not be allowed on the island during this period. Further advisories will be issued pending weekend weather forecasts.

White Lights on the beach front at night prohibited ... details ±

Bear Island is home to nesting sea turtles. Campers need to be aware that during the summer months the use of white lights on the beach front at night is prohibited. If you walk the beach front at night PLEASE use a red lens or cover the lens of the flashlight with something red.

The unspoiled allure of Hammocks Beach State Park and Bear Island.
The visitor center's back porch is a great place to learn about the park's natural history.
The ferries offer a scenic trip to Bear Island.
It's very common to see Atlantic bottlenose dolphins in the waters around the park.
The Bear Island bathhouse complex was completed in early 2004 and it offers a snack bar, restrooms and outdoor showers.
The island bathhouse offers a noteworthy view of Bear Island.
American oystercatcher.
Grey foxes are common to the mainland and are the only fox that can climb trees.
A pair of royal terns.
Common buckeye butterfly. You will have a hard time finding something that isn't interesting in this unique and beautiful state park.
A Wilson's plover on it's nest.
