State parks and state recreation areas that do not currently have campsites or other facilities that can be reserved include Carvers Creek, Chimney Rock, Fort Fisher, Grandfather Mountain, Dismal Swamp, Fort Macon and Elk Knob.

Haw River State Park features the residential Summit Environmental Education Center, which offers single- and multi-day programming and full-service conference facilities. Tailored reservations can be made for group activities by contacting The Summit directly. Haw River State Park does not offer family campsites or public picnic shelters.
Singletary Lake State Park features lodging and meeting facilities, which can be reserved for group activities only by contacting the park directly. Singletary Lake State Park does not offer family campsites.
