Elk Knob State Park »  Welcome!
Elk Knob is open for park visitors. If planning to hike the park's trail, you may still encounter 3 to 4 foot drifts and icy trail surfaces. Be sure to dress in layers, wear good hiking boots, and carry extra food and water.

Serious plant pests can be introduced into our parks by campers who bring in firewood. To prevent this, many of our parks sell firewood. For campers who choose to bring in their own firewood, please use wood harvested from a source local to the park. Campers should not bring firewood from outside of North Carolina.

Currently, it is in an interim development stage with a park office/contact station, picnic area, parking areas, and trail to the summit of Elk Knob, with plans to add a maintenance facility and road improvements. At this time, visitors can hike to the summit by following a steep, rocky road.
