The Systemwide Plan for North Carolina State Parks is available for public review and input.

This plan is required by the 1987 State Parks Act. Chapter One (Accomplishments) outlines the activities and achievements of the state parks system from 2000 through 2008. Chapter Two (State of the System) details the status of the state parks system as of December 2008. Chapter Three (Resource Evaluation) reviews trends and needs for conservation of natural resources in the state parks system, and identifies priorities for resource protection. Chapter Four (Trends Affecting Outdoor Recreation) explains how demographic trends and recreational preferences will help shape the state parks system in the future. Chapter Five (Strategic Directions) lays out the key things the state parks system will need to do over the next few years.

The document will be available for public review until October 31, 2009. We welcome all comments about the plan itself or about the state parks system in general.
